Pumpkin party

Today Aaron, Wyatt, and I drove down to Iowa City. First, we grabbed some lunch from Sparti's (LOVE greek food) and then we headed over to see Aaron's mom for a little while. Wyatt had a fun time playing at Grandma's house, then we hopped back in the car and drove across town to our previous daycare provider's house for a pumpkin-carving party.
Of course, I forgot to take my camera in, but Aaron carved a masterpiece and Wyatt ran around and played like crazy. Oh, and he ate three cookies. I tried to get him to eat a cracker, apple slice, chex mix, or a pretzel. Nope. "Mo'?" "Googie?" Well... not like he eats cookies everyday.

Anyway, here's a picture from tonight of our freshly carved pumpkin. We put a candle in it and lit it - Wyatt thought that was pretty great. :)

Wyatt's new tooth

So... it's been awhile since Wyatt got a new tooth in. He has four incisors on top and two incisors on the bottom. The new tooth he just got in is the lower left molar. The dentist in me is slightly concerned that he hasn't gotten in the other incisors on the bottom yet, but... he is only 15 months. :) I can feel the lower right molar is about to come in, and he has been quite fussy the past few days and finicky about eating. I can't wait for him to get those other three molars in!

Welcome to our sweet niece Piper!

Today we stopped at the hospital to see Tyler, Katie, and Piper! Somehow Aaron got to hold her first - no fair! :)
Wyatt wanted to touch her head, but other than that wanted to explore around the room.

Here she is! So precious!

Finally my turn to hold her! :) She is so light - about 2.5 lb lighter than Wyatt was when he was born! We are very happy she and her mom are doing so well!

Weekend in Iowa City

Aaron, Wyatt, and I headed to Iowa City on Friday afternoon - I'm done with work at 2 on Fridays, and with Aaron's new job he can be done whenever he wants! So, we packed up and drove to Iowa City where we met up with Aaron's mom for dinner at Sushi Popo. Oh, how we miss the crab rangoons, house fried rice, and sushi of Sushi Popo! :)

Saturday morning we got up and ate breakfast at Brueggers, another Iowa City favorite. We walked around the Ped Mall, and Wyatt had a blast at the playground. He was very excited when he saw it!
Daddy chased Wyatt around the playground so Grandma Cheri and I could get lots of pictures. :)

I love the joy on his face, and how excited he is about going down the slide!

I love this picture by the fountain - Grandma took Wyatt over to the fountain, and he reached out to touch it and it surprised him that it was water! It was pretty cute!

After walking around downtown, we drove to Swisher to check out a pumpkin farm there. It was not quite how it was advertised, but we still had a good time.

The pictures do no justice to just how steep the hill was that the pumpkins were on. Wyatt had a hard time walking around because of how steep it was!

Wyatt found a little pumpkin just his size...

And he tried to pick up pumpkins that weigh as much as he does! :)

We let him pick out a little gourd, and this is the one he went home with. Very cute. Until he tried to eat it in the car. :) We had a very nice weekend, and Wyatt enjoyed lots of attention from his grandparents. We'll be back soon!

Wyatt is 15 months old

Time flies! Wyatt is already 1/4 through his second year of life! He is becoming very much a little boy and not so much a baby.

He is wearing 18 -24 month size clothing right now and size 5 shoes. I don't know his current weight - probably around 25 pounds - but his next well-child appointment is on Wednesday. We'll see how he's measuring! He is such a solid little boy, but he really doesn't have a lot of chub to him as he is so busy and running around all the time!

Anyway, here he is feeding himself yogurt this morning. I don't usually let him attempt this on his own as it gets messy, but I know he needs to learn how to feed himself! He tries to use a fork sometime, but it's more for playing than eating. He'll get there. No rush. :) Well, by next April it would be helpful if he could feed himself more... :)

Reuben waiting for any spills...

Chewie on the other side of the high-chair... They wait and wait, and sometimes he drops food to them, though Mommy says "no-no."

Here's a little clip of him eating the yogurt. So cute. :)

life ramblings...

So... pregnancy this far has been much like I remember it - I'm still tired and queasy most days! But there have been a few differences. This time around I have very specific cravings. Like today, for example, I really wanted sushi. Really, really wanted sushi. I'm trying to stay away from raw fish, so tonight I had a California roll instead of the usual spicy tuna. And it was wonderful. :) Then at the grocery store tonight we walked by the peaches and nectarines, my hyper-pregnant nose picked up the smell and I HAD to have some nectarines. It's weird to have such specific cravings!

I can't wait to get past the icky first trimester!

Anyway, Wyatt has been a lot of fun lately. He is just so busy and active lately, playing all the time. His vocabulary is really expanding too. Here are the words he regularly says: Mama, Dada, Daddy, mine, hi, hot, nana, hat, woof, dog, down, more, Go Hawks, and no-no. He's a big boy!

Well, got to run, Wyatt is trying to climb onto the couch with me. :)

Baby Brummer #2 coming in April!

Wyatt is proud to wear his new "Big Bro" t-shirt. He has no idea what it means. :) I suppose once the new baby gets here, he'll realize what was going on!

Our tentative due date right now is April 29th, which makes me 9 weeks on Friday. I feel like junk lately, and I can't wait to get out of the "all-day-sickness" phase!

Our little Hawk fan!

"Go Hawks!"

Mommy taught Wyatt to say "Go Hawks!' today. It kind of sounds like "go gawks" when he says it, but it's adorable! Love our little Hawkeye fan!

Rough day for Wyatt

Wyatt has been a little under the weather lately, and today it got a little worse. He's on some antibiotics because the doctor thought he might have an ear infection, and since Friday his diapers have been rather runny. TMI - sorry. Today it has gotten worse, and this afternoon/evening he cries when he makes a dirty diaper. :( I let him soak in the bathtub after several of them so I didn't have to be so vigorous with the diaper wipes, but even that made him cry after a while. So, we are trying a few home remedies tonight - one is a Maalox/triple antibiotic ointment/vaseline mix, and the other is some browned flour. Grandma B. swears by the flour - we'll see how it works! It's emotionally rough on Mommy when he is crying and hurting and there is so little I can do about it.

Yesterday Aaron and I went on a date night, and one of the students that works for him came over and watched him. Well, last night around 3 am Wyatt woke up crying, so I went in to check on him. He was completely soaked - so much that when I picked him up, he soaked one side of my shirt! When I changed his diaper, I realized the babysitter had put his diaper on really loose and BACKWARDS! lol That really made me laugh. I wasn't laughing though when Wyatt was still awake two hours later... I think that was a sign for what was to come today. *sigh* I think this must be one of those Mommy-rites-of-passage days/weeks.

I've got my feet up now, and I think I'm going to bed early. Aaron is working a wedding tonight, so he won't be home until really late!

I'm a bad blogger lately

I've been slacking majorly on the blog. Sorry. I need to take more pictures - that always motivates me to blog!

Life is busy as ever. Work is keeping both Aaron and I busy, and we've had some major changes in our childcare. Two weeks ago, I arrived early at Wyatt's daycare to take him to a doctor's appointment. When I walked in the house, the woman was nowhere to be found, and Wyatt was hanging out in a highchair (not strapped in) in the kitchen alone. Oh, and with crackers and a cup - so he could have choked. Awesome. And then I found our former daycare provider outside smoking with another woman. So... Wyatt did not go back. The next two days Grandma Cheri watched Wyatt, two days after that Grandma Muffy watched him, then another girl we've never met watched him one day, then he spent a day at another daycare, then one day with Daddy. Whew! He definitely hasn't been bored! This past Monday he started at a daycare center that's under 10 minutes from our house. I don't love the idea of a center, but this one is nice, and at least I know he is safe! He is clingy right now, and I don't blame him. But I'm sure he'll get familiar with his new daycare and like playing with all of the kids.

Well, I need to get to bed... Is it the weekend yet??? :)

Wyatt all dressed up

Wyatt got all dressed up to go to our friend's wedding last night. Isn't he handsome??? :) He even has dress shoes and socks on - I didn't even think they made dress socks that small!

On the way to the wedding - he was loving the AC blowing his hair.

Daddy and Wyatt at the wedding - my two handsome guys!

Here's just a picture from today - someone needs to tell him that it's illegal to text and drive at the same time now!

Wyatt feeds himself

Tonight I made some of the frozen peas that steam in the bag - I have to admit that I have little experience cooking vegetables since most of my life I didn't eat them. But... I want Wyatt to eat them, so I am trying to do so too. I put some peas on Wyatt's tray and he gobbled them up! This plate was full of peas before I started feeding him, and this is how much was left when he was done - not bad, little man! I even ate some of the peas - they're not half bad. :)

I've been starting to work on teaching Wyatt to feed himself. It's hilarious. And he has so much fun. :)

We're working on getting the yogurt straight from the cup into his mouth. Right now he likes to detour to the tray first.

Wyatt got tired of the spoon and attempted to drink the yogurt.

But that's too hard, so he tried to use his hand. Too messy!

Back to the spoon! Oh, what fun. Don't worry, he got a bath when we were done!

Here's a little video of him feeding himself - he's a little distracted by what Daddy is doing, so it takes awhile to catch him put the spoon in his mouth.

Wild man

There's a little wild man living in my house, and his name is Wyatt! He is feeling very spoiled after his birthday party! He has all of his new toys upstairs to play with, and believe me, he is doing his best to figure them all out!

This morning he was playing in his little car, and he tried to climb into it on the side that doesn't have the door. Well, he landed with his head on the seat, his arms stuck behind him, and his legs dangling out the window! He was hollering for me to help, and I had to laugh because he is fearless and gets into all kinds of trouble because of it.

He's happier in these pictures...

"When is Daddy coming home??"

"Whoa-Whoa-Whoa!!! I'm a wild man!!!" Wyatt figured out how to push the button on the four-wheeler, so now he tears around the living room running into the walls, furniture, the dogs... :) He's having fun.

It feels like my time off is going by very quickly! Hopefully I will get my license soon - my planned start date for work is August 2nd. So, this weekend Aaron and I are going on a little getaway to Minneapolis - we hope to hit up IKEA, the Mall of America, and some good eating! Wyatt is going to hang out with Grandma Cheri, and I'm sure he'll have a great time too! :)

Happy Belated Birthday, Aaron!

So Sunday was Aaron's 26th birthday! So young! :) Aaron's parents drove up for lunch - we went to Chapala, one of Aaron's favorite restaurants. My parents took us out for dinner to Sakura, another favorite, so I'd say it was a pretty great day! :) I made Aaron a birthday cake, and I even put 26 candles on. This is the fourth picture of Aaron with his cake - the first three were a range of silly to serious faces. Finally a smile! :)

While taking pictures of Aaron with his cake, Wyatt decided he wanted to touch it. I was focused on my camera, and Aaron was looking at me, so Wyatt got his whole hand in the frosting! Like a true boy, he immediately wiped his frosting-covered hand on his pants. Typical. :)

Quick! Call the Fire Department!

Friday was my last day of my externship - I've submitted by application for a dental license to the board, and now I wait! And wait, and wait... just kidding, this is only the second day of my waiting. I'm hoping to have my license by early August. Doesn't that sound crazy to say August? That makes me a little sad, because it means summer will be over soon. I may love fall almost more than summer, just because I love the moderate weather.

Anyway. Today I conned Daddy into getting up with Wyatt so I could sleep for twenty more minutes. It was fantastic. :) Then we made pancakes for breakfast, and Wyatt ate almost the entire pancake! We tidied up a little, and played up until naptime. A little Mommy time, and now I am going to go take a shower in peace! I think the plan for the afternoon is to get the clean laundry put away, some general cleaning, and a run to Target for some essentials. Last night I actually cooked dinner (I'm being the good SAHM right now :) ) and I may do it again tonight. We'll see. Aaron may actually prefer when I don't cook - ha!

And here's a picture of my boys. Love them.

Night out!

Tonight Aaron and I had a date night to celebrate his 26th birthday! (well, it's tomorrow - it's a birthday weekend :) ) We tried out a new babysitter, and I think it went really well. She regularly watches 11-month old triplets, so Wyatt is no match for her! We went to Galeria de Paco for dinner - we have heard good things, so being the food snobs that we are, we needed to try it! :) We definitely enjoyed the appetizers and main courses, though the dessert was a little lacking. Overall, we give it an 8 out of 10. We'll be going back! (but maybe skipping dessert and going to 4 Queens - ha!) The owner and our waiter even came over to our table and sang "Happy Birthday" to Aaron - pretty hilarious. It's an over-the-top restaurant!

After dinner we went to see "Despicable Me" - Steve Carell is the lead voice in the cartoon. Very cute and funny - I would watch it again! It was a good night, and now I'm tired...

Happy 26th Birthday, Aaron! I love you so much!

Working weekend

This weekend we rolled up our sleeves and got to work! Aaron's parents came up to help us, as we wanted to get the living room painted and get started on putting up a fence. You can see Wyatt was eager to get to work as well! :)

Wyatt was working hard trying to pick up the full bucket of paint!

In the living/dining room we: 1.) primed the walls that had wallpaper before 2.) took down the ridiculous curtains and curtain rod 3.) patched holes in the walls 4.) sanded the 9-pane window, built-in shelf for the TV, and half-wall by the door 5.) Primed those three things 6.) Painted the dining room one shade of grey 7.) Painted the living room another shade of grey 8.) Painted the window trim white 9.) Replaced the outlets and outlet covers so they are white 10.) Put up the new curtain rod and curtains. WHEW!!! And that doesn't include the work that Aaron and his dad did on the fence. All of the post holes are dug and some have been anchored in with the concrete. And all of this happened with Wyatt around. Amazingness. :)

Here's a picture of the curtains, just for you, Cheri! :) Tonight Aaron and I are kicking back and taking it all in. My neck and shoulder are feeling all of the painting! :)

Anyway, when we make a little more progress with the decorating, I'll take more pictures of the living room and dining room. But you can see the wall color in this picture, and the fun chair. You can also see the awful purple carpet that MUST GO! Soon. When the budget can take it. :)

Happy 4th of July to you all!

Wyatt is 1 year old!!!

"Hey! It's my birthday! You better do what I want!!!" Okay, this is Wyatt's thing right now - he lifts up his hand like he's pointing at things, and says "Eh? Eh? Eh?" Like, "Please? Can I have it?"
This is right after Wyatt woke up - he's still got that sleepy look. Aaron and I both got him up this morning and sang Happy Birthday to him. I think he thought we were crazy! :)

This afternoon he got to open his present and card from us.

He looks like he's trying to be sneaky about getting the card off of the present.

It's a smash-the-balls-with-a-hammer toy! Just like at Grandma's house!

Mmm! Red velvet cupcake! I bet Chewie is jealous.

What a cute red goatee you have, Wyatt!

Wyatt had his 1 year well child appointment today. He weighs about 23 lb and 5 oz, which is the 60th percentile. He's just over 30" tall, about the 65th percentile. His head is in the 75th percentile. He had to get two shots today - the nurses did it at one time, so he cried for a few seconds but then he got over it. He didn't cry at all when they did the finger poke to draw some blood. Tough guy! He did a great job today at the doctor. For his birthday dinner, we went to Chapala. His favorite food when we go out to eat is refried beans and Mexican rice, so that's what he had tonight.

And totally unrelated, Aaron put up the microwave/hood tonight, so the appliances are officially all installed! Yay!
