My baby is 2 months old today!

Wyatt is two months old today - time flies! He has quite a personality, and is a high-energy little boy! He is full of smiles and coos when he is fed, and he likes to be carried around so he can see what is going on. He is NOT happy to do one thing for more than 10 minutes it seems - I think he get this from his dad! :)

Well, before he was born I had all kinds of ideas about how life would be once he arrived. Some things have held true, and some have not. He definitely does not sleep as well at night as I thought he would at 2 months. And he has a hard time falling asleep on his own which can be a little frustrating at night. He is a little guy - he is just at 9 lb. right now. One of our friends from church just had a little girl a month after we had Wyatt - she is already up to 9 lb. 10 oz.! I would have never expected to have such a little baby, but here he is! :) He is a sweet little boy, and he melts my heart every time he smiles at me!

2 month check-up and shots!

Today Wyatt had his two month appointment and he got 3 shots and and oral vaccination! Poor little guy! He handled it well though - there were two nurses and they did the shots all at once. He fussed, and then I nursed him for a little bit to calm him down and he was content after that. I don't think it was terribly traumatic for him, so that makes me happy. He weighs just about 9 lb. today, so he is continuing to be a 20 gram/day boy. He continues to be in the 4th percentile for weight, his head circumference is closer to the 50th, and his height is in the 36th percentile. So, he is on his own unique weight curve, and I'm not going to worry about it. He does have to go back in a month for a weight check - they want to make sure he doesn't drop below the 4th percentile.

Anyway, today we had a visit from Grandma Muffy and Grandma B. He slept a lot of the time they were here, but he did have some good smiles for them after he ate his lunch! :)

Trip to Council Bluffs/Omaha and 8 weeks old!

On Monday Aaron, Wyatt and I drove to Council Bluffs to see Aaron's dad's side of the family. We stopped in the evening to see Aaron's Grandma.

We spent the night at the Fairfield Inn in Omaha, and Wyatt slept like a champ in the pack-and-play provided by the hotel (I was surprised, since we all slept in the same room - I thought we would wake him up, but he only woke up once around 2:30 am).

On Tuesday, we went to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha - it's one of the top ten zoos in the world! We saw lots of great exhibits and we rode the train around the zoo. And... Wyatt slept like a champ. :) Pretty much the whole time we spent at the zoo he slept, except for waking up to eat around lunchtime. I think that Wyatt's next trip to the zoo will be a little more fun for him because he'll be awake! :) Aaron took pictures with his camera, so I'll have to steal some from him.

Tuesday afternoon we went back to the hotel and took Wyatt swimming. Here he is pre-swim chilling on a chaise lounge chair... Isn't he adorable in his swimsuit!?!

We tried him out in the pool first:

But, he was less than thrilled with how cold the water was!

So we went to the hot tub, which really wasn't that hot and let him put his feet in.

He really liked the warm water - he was so calm!

After the pool, we went to dinner with Aaron's Aunt Marsha and Uncle Mike, his cousins Courtney and Kristin, and his Grandma Brummer. We had a great time catching up with them and showing off Wyatt. :)
Today we spent the morning with Aaron's Grandma and had lunch with her. Then we drove home in lots of rain!
We had a good mini-vacation, and it's good to be home!

A boy and his puppy dog...

Wyatt likes to hold on to things when he sleeps, so I've been putting his little puppy with him when he goes to sleep in the swing. He's so sweet!

Overnight update

Wyatt decided to show the doctors what's what last night. He slept from 8 pm to 3 am! He did make up for not eating in the middle of that 7 hour stretch though, because he woke up at 5 am and 7 am to eat. Mommy really liked getting 5 hours of straight sleep!

Wyatt's weight check

Today we went back to the doctor to have Wyatt's weight checked. He weighed 8 lb. 6 oz., so he is up 9 ounces from two weeks ago. They would like him to gain 20-30 grams a day, and this ended up being 19 grams a day. So... we are not too far off. The pediatrics resident made me worried when she talked with us first, but the staff doctor didn't seem quite as worried about his weight gain. She did tell us that we shouldn't let him go longer than four hours at night between feedings, but I don't think we will do that. He has just started to get into a good bedtime/sleeping routine, and I don't want to mess that up. Even if he does sleep longer than four hours, usually it's only one 5 or 6 hour stretch, and then he goes back to every three hours.
Anyway, the appointment fell at a bad time for Wyatt, because he was supposed to be napping. So the poor baby fell asleep in the waiting room, then I had to undress him to weigh him which woke him up, then we waited for the doctor and he fell back asleep, then she had to mess with him and wake him up... Then he cried the whole way home until I fed him! Poor baby! So he had a little bit of a rough night tonight. Aaron fed him his bedtime bottle and put him down for the night, and he even fussed a little after he laid him down which is unusual for him. But, I convinced him to go to sleep and now he has been down for just over an hour. Hopefully he gets some good sleep! (Now I need to pump and get to bed too! :) )

Wyatt is 7 weeks old today!

These pictures aren't the best quality, but I still think they are cute! He smiles so much more now, and I can really make him smile and coo if I try and he is not hungry. :)

Tomorrow we have our two week check-up for his weight - we'll see how much weight he has gained! I have this fear that they are going to say he hasn't gained as much as they would like, and I am not sure what I will do if that is the case. I don't feel like he is hungry - believe me, he lets me know when he wants to eat! But we'll see how it goes tomorrow. Think chubby thoughts for Wyatt! :)

I call this one "Kung Fu Baby." He's popped me in the face a few times... I try not to take it personally. :)

Wyatt is 6 weeks old today!

Time flies! Today Wyatt is six weeks old, and he is continuing to fill out. His cheeks are starting to plump up, so hopefully when we go back to the doctor in a week they will say that he is gaining weight like he should be (At our one month check-up they were a little concerned about his weight since he is in the 50th percentile for height and only the 10th for weight. I've been working on fattening him up by trying to feed him more often and give him additional bottles of expressed milk.). He has outgrown the newborn clothes, and now he is in 0-3.

Here is my favorite 0-3 sleeper. This is the first sleeper I bought before we even found out if we were having a boy or a girl. I just think it is fun.

Wyatt has discovered he likes the swing now - he just needs a little convincing. :)

Here is our "convincer." Not only is this vacuum great for sucking up dog hair, it also quiets down Wyatt enough that he will let the swing put him to sleep. I've vacuumed the living room three times today! :)

What a peaceful baby...

I've been reading a book called "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" and I think Wyatt hasn't been getting enough sleep lately so he hasn't been sleeping well at night. I've been trying to make sure he gets good naps during the day, and now we are trying to put him to bed by 7 or 8 every night. We'll see how it goes! It's not a quick fix, but hopefully it will help us set up a good bedtime routine and help me to get some more sleep!

More Wyatt pictures...

This is Wyatt's face - he is saying "Really Mom? Why do you put me in all of these funny positions? I'm all folded up on myself!"

Here is Daddy feeding him a bottle - Wyatt is a good little eater!

Here is the new activity mat that we bought Wyatt today. We really like it - it has lights and music that he seems to like. I gave him a bath this evening, then he lay underneath it for a good 15 minutes! Then I put him on his tummy, and he fell asleep! I'm a fan if it will entertain him and then put him to sleep!

Wyatt's Great-Grandma, Great-Aunt, and cousin come to visit!

Aaron's Grandma Manuel, Aunt Shelly, and cousin Cody came this past weekend to visit and to see Wyatt. It was very nice of them to drive all the way from Missouri to come see us!

Check out the smile! Wyatt is very happy to see his Great-Grandma!

Here is Wyatt enjoying a good cuddle with his Great-Aunt!

Canada Trip

Aaron, Wyatt, and I went to Canada this year with my parents, my sister's family, and the Rittgers clan (Larry, Suzy, Tim, Emma, and baby Judah, and Harold Munson). We had a very good week of fishing, eating, and watching Wyatt change and continue to grow! Here are some of the pictures from the trip...

Aaron made a decal for the back of the boat - Big Blue!

It rained most days while we were there, and I saw four rainbows! Here is one of them.

Wyatt slept in a travel bassinet on the trip - he is so sweet when he is sleeping! :)

Here is Dad with one of many Walleyes that we caught and ate for lunch! Now that is fresh fish!

Wyatt and I didn't fish, but we did hang out in the boat with the fishermen/women.

Mom took a break from fishing to hold Wyatt... I don't think she missed fishing! :)

Here is Aaron fishing off the back of the boat. He spent most of the time fishing on the front of the boat, but he had an unfortunate incident... I'll let him tell you about it, or Mom will! :) You can see the dark clouds in the picture - lots and lots of clouds on this trip!

Wyatt slept in his carseat on the way to and from Canada. Here he is decked out in his Hawkeye gear from Grandma and Grandpa Brummer!

And here is my sweetie - he is exactly one month old in this picture! He has changed a lot in this first month. My favorite thing that he is now doing is smiling at me! He has also rolled multiple times from lying on his tummy to his back. And, he has also had a 6 hour stretch of sleep one night (Mommy is still waiting for another!) and many nights does a 5 hour stretch.
